Junior Analyst — Berlin
Berlin-based · Hybrid · Consultant engagement
Tasks
The Role
We are looking for a Junior Analyst to join our Berlin team, supporting our other Analysts, consultants
and senior directors with research, written analysis and the day-to-day work of staying on top of
German and EU political and policy developments.
External engagement is expected through Berlin’s policy and foreign-affairs scene: representing the
firm at seminars, workshops and think-tank events (DGAP, SWP, Körber-Stiftung, Hertie School,
ECFR, MERICS, the political foundations and similar), engaging with stakeholders, and reporting back
what they hear.
What You’ll Do
- Monitor German and EU political, regulatory and policy developments, Bundestag, Bundesrat,
federal ministries, Länder and the Brussels institutions, and surface what matters. - Produce concise written outputs for the senior team: briefing notes, stakeholder profiles, weekly
monitoring digests and short analytical pieces, in German and English. - Conduct desk research on companies, individuals, policy files and market dynamics relevant to
ongoing mandates. - Build and maintain stakeholder maps, officials, parliamentarians, advisers, journalists, thirdparty voices.
- Attend think-tank events, seminars and workshops in Berlin on the firm’s behalf, engage with
stakeholders, and report back useful intelligence and context to the team. - Provide reliable in-office presence on days when senior directors are working remotely, keeping
the office staffed and the team’s logistics moving.
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
- A degree in International Relations, Political Science, Public Relations, Public Policy,
Communications or an equivalent discipline. - At least two years of relevant post-graduate work experience, in a consultancy, public affairs
agency, think tank, political office, ministry, embassy, journalism, or in-house government
relations role. - Full professional fluency in German and English, written and verbal. You will draft in both
languages. - A solid working knowledge of the German political system and how decisions are made in Berlin
and Brussels. - Comfort in a small team where ownership and initiative are expected from day one.
What we offer
Working Arrangement
- Hybrid, with the expectation of being in the office on days when senior directors are working
remotely. - Engaged on an independent consultant basis (freiberuflich / selbständig), invoicing the firm for
your services. You handle your own tax, social security and health insurance arrangements; we
are happy to discuss the practicalities with shortlisted candidates. - Berlin residency required, this is not a remote role, and regular presence at events across the
city is part of the work. - Fees: a competitive day-rate or monthly retainer, commensurate with experience.
How to apply
Please send a CV (in English or German) and a short covering note (no more than one page) explaining
why this role interests you and what you would bring to the team. Applications will be reviewed on a
rolling basis until the position is filled - joshua.heames@danubiagroup.com.
